Jiāng Jiànshè

Jiāng JiànshèAfter graduating from Wǔhàn University in 2001, Jiāng Jiànshè (蔣建設) majored in Chinese traditional historical phonology and dialectology at Peking University, where he took his M.A. in 2004 and his Ph.D. in 2008. Since then, he lectures at Mínzú University in Classical Chinese, Chinese traditional historical phonology, and the critical interpretation of ancient texts. Since 2017, he has been working on his doctorate at the University of Bern on comparative Trans-Himalayan linguistics.

Inspired by the heated debate that has waged in Old Chinese reconstruction in mainland China since 2002, Jiāng aims to shed new light on Old Chinese and proto-Trans-Himalayan by assessing comparative evidence from several minority languages in རོང་བྲག་ Rong-brag (丹巴 Dānbā) and རྟའུ་རྫོང་། rTaḥu rDzong (道孚 Dàofú) counties in northwestern Sìchuān as well as historical evidence from ancient Tangut documents and the multilingual Chinese-Barbarian dictionaries (西番譯語 Xīfān Yìyǔ).
